The Telegraph Trail

The Telegraph Trail Preservation Society promotes the historical significance and preservation of this historic site by restoring, maintaining and promoting the Trail for recreational use. A section of trail, now over 60 miles in length has been located and restored in northern British Columbia.

The Telegraph Trail was not only a maintenance trail for the telegraph line, but also a land-based transportation route like it's more famous southern section, the Old Cariboo Wagon Road. The region is now dotted with place names and townships as a direct result of the Collin's Overland Telegraph line of 1865 - 1866, and the Yukon Telegraph which replaced it in 1901. This is an important chapter in the transportation and communications heritage of British Columbia.

Note: After being in existence for twenty-five years, the Telegraph Trail Preservation Society has been disbanded in 2006 due to a lack of funding and a lack of interest. However, some sections of the trail will be kept open on a volunteer basis. The newsletter and this website will continue to be updated.
